The Archdiocese of Chicago traditionally requires Catholics to prepare for First Reconciliation and First Communion in the second grade after two consecutive years of Religious Education.

Baptized children in second through seventh grades who have not yet received First Communion are eligible as long as they have been enrolled two consecutive years leading up to the sacrament. These students will be expected to attend class sessions related to the Holy Eucharist in addition to their regular classes.

All candidates for First Communion will participate in required extra activities, including a retreat and evaluations.

Parents will be involved in the preparation as well as the celebration of this Sacrament, including a parent meeting in January.
