The parish family of All Souls is happy to welcome new members into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism! Baptisms take place at St. Ann Church on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month (unless otherwise indicated) during the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Parents must attend a virtual preparation session and a quick rehearsal prior to their child’s baptism. These are held monthly on the Thursday & Friday evenings before the first baptisms of the month. There are no baptisms during Lent.

At what age are children baptized?

Children are generally baptized when they are between two and six months old. However, all children up to seven years old are welcome to Infant Baptism, as the Church considers anyone who has not yet completed their seventh year to be an infant. Therefore, the parents of children under the age of seven may request baptism and attend the parish’s infant baptism preparation session.

We also welcome children aged seven or older to baptism. We offer baptismal preparation designed to meet the needs of older children and their parents in the RCIY program (Rite of Christian Initiation of Youth). We also welcome adults interested in baptism to join our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process.

What are the qualifications of the Godparents/Sponsors?

Godparents are representatives of the Roman Catholic community who are willing and able to assist in the religious upbringing of the child. Godparents (sponsors) of infants and others preparing for baptism are committed Roman Catholics chosen by the parents or by the person wishing to be baptized. Godparents must be at least 16 years old, have received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, and be a Catholic of good standing, leading a life in harmony with the faith.

The parents may choose one or two godparents. Additional sponsors are welcome but are not officially considered godparents. A non-Catholic cannot serve as a godparent, but he or she can participate in the baptism as a Christian witness. However, it remains the responsibility of the Catholic godparent (there must be one) to ensure a Christian upbringing for the child.

A godparent or Christian witness who is unable to attend the baptism may have a representative (proxy) take his/her place.

Once we have received your request, we will be in contact to verify the information, answer any questions, provide additional information, and set the date for your child’s Baptism.

All new parents are asked to complete a Baptismal Preparation Class before their child is baptized. The preparation class is important for the information it provides regarding the ceremony and for a broader understanding of the significance of the Sacrament of Baptism.
